Welcome to Year 3
Spring 2 WOW Day – Italian Day
We have continued with our Roman theme for our WOW day by focusing on Italy.
This half term we will be concentrating on geography by looking at Italy, Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius.
During our Italian Day the children have made place mats, menus, bunting and researched Italian words to use in our Italian restaurant.
The children cooked the main course by making pizza and pasta. They went in small groups with Mrs Stenson and Mrs Riley to do the cooking.
In the afternoon we had a tasting session where the children tried olives, salamis and different Italian cheeses.
Then we finished the day by gathering Year 3 and 4 in the Italian restaurant we had created.
We enjoyed a starter of salad, a main course of pizza and pasta, and for dessert we had tiramisu, panna cotta, and gelato. It was delicious!
Christmas Party – 2018
The children in Year 3 have worked so hard this term. We finished our term with a fantastic Christmas party!
Year 3 and 4 spent the afternoon in the hall playing games, dancing and eating food. Well done Year 3 for all of your hard work this term.
After Christmas, we will be learning about ‘The Romans’!
Autumn 2 WOW DAY – Robot Day
We kicked off this half term by using our electricity focus to make Robot Heads. The children had a great time making a robot with eyes that lit up using an electrical circuit.
It also had a moving mouth that opened and closed. This was achieved by using a balloon and tubing.
When the children blew into the tube, it blew up the balloon and opened the mouth. As the air was released, the mouth shut.
We spent the afternoon with a visit from the ‘Clever Cloggers’. The children were taught how to make robots by following the instructions in a team.
They then had to work together to program their robot to move from one place to another using a coding program!
Iron Man WOW day
4th September 2018
We started our first topic ‘How do the Iron Man’s Eyes Change Colour’ with our fabulous WOW day. The children had a brilliant time!
We did Iron Man sketches, chalk pictures and collages. We also made robots using boxes, tin foil and collage materials. Their amazing work has made our corridor look spectacular!
During the first week we wrote descriptions of the Iron Man falling off the cliff using the beginning of the book as our stimulus.
Please visit our corridor to read the children’s descriptions and to look at their art work.
We will continue this topic by learning about electricity and making circuits. We are going to use our circuit knowledge to make a moving robot with eyes that light up!
